A while back I removed Dart's hood and the bolt closest to windshield on passenger's side came out real dry. Someone had used a metric bolt in place of factory bolt. Now correct bolt will not cinch up enough to hold that corner of hood down even with fender. I just put up with the ill fitting hood for a year or two, now hood is once again removed for engine work, and ill fitting situation needs to be corrected.

Any ideas how to remedy the situation? I had not inspected the damage at time of hood removal and storage until just now. That inner sliding attachment point looks to be a trapped nut which is attached to a blind length of heavy square sliding stock and can't be removed for replacement without cutting a hole. There is also rust and fatigue damage around rectangular hole in hood structure where said bolt passes through in need of repair.

Has anyone repaired a small blind nut with Helicoil or such at that location? Was it successful? I think I can address the rotted fatigued metal repair with a little welding in of new metal.

Depends on how 'stripped ' it is. I have put stiff wire in holes to get the bolts to tighten up, you may also try using a slightly larger bolt, possibly a metric one.

Can you cut a small hole to the inside of the hood support inner panel and then use a nut on a longer bolt to fix the issue? I had to do this on a 68 Barracuda hood and it worked well.

That would be quick & easy, as well as durable... Something to ponder.

Is there enough room to drill and tap to a larger size, seems like there should be room in the sheet metal slot to put a bigger bolt through to the slider thingy.

There is a more substantial structural square section of tube with welded nuts encased in hood sheet metal which hood bolts run into. There is enough area to through drill the whole width of that section of hood enabling bolt & nut to be used. Currently 5/16" bolts are used.

This is what I did. Luckily on a '64 there are already holes on the inside, so I didn't have to cut anything.
