Post subject:  10 inch brake question
72 duster 10 inch front brakes, small bolt pattern. Does any one know if 10 inch "B" body hub and drum could be put on the "A" body spindle to get big bolt pattern. I'm thinking, not.

I think the outer bearings are the same...

With the '73 and later big ball joint upper control arm, you can use the whole B body spindle and drum brake setup.

No, the bearings (at least one) are different. I went through this with my '66 Barracuda. There is an AMC hub which uses the same bearings, but I wasn't able to find a seal. I ended up not using any of the original front brakes. I torched out the small upper ball joint and welded in a sleeve to accept the big ball joint and used late A-body drum spindles which are essentially B-body spindles.

What do you consider "late" A body drum spindles? I thought the 72 "A" 10 spindles were the same up to when disc was standard.

I'm 99.9% sure this will work.
'68-'70 B body spindle/brake assembly with a '73-'76 A body upper a-arm.

1972 model year is the last of the K-H disc brakes and small upper ball joints so 1973+ is "late". We had a disc brake equipped '72 Duster and I "enjoyed" rebuilding the calipers in 1998. I bought 5 pistons to replace pitted ones.

So, from what I am reading, it is not going to work, just putting "B" body 10 drums and hubs, on a 72 "A" body spindle

Correct. Go look at the bearings used (rockauto.com) and you'll see why.

First off, why stay with drum when you can get disc? Just bolt on a set of 73-76 spindles from a duster. they should bolt on directly.

First off, why stay with drum when you can get disc? Just bolt on a set of 73-76 spindles from a duster. they should bolt on directly.
You have a set for free? The person that asked me, had some "B" body stuff on hand.
