For anyone that has knowledge of the infamous "Argentinian Front" Exhaust Manifold, here is my question: What does the Argentinian front exhaust manifold do that the HyperPak does not ? Does it allow for better flow, bracketry, clearance ? Please be specific. Is there such thing as a matching Argentinian rear exhaust manifold ? For anyone that has knowledge of HyperPak exhaust manifolds: Was the outlet threaded for studs or drilled for through bolts ? If threaded I assume 7/16" coarse ? -- Michael Sargeant |

Mike, this link will take you to a bunch of info and pictures of the Hyperpak and Argentine manifolds. Mine had holes drill in them, not threaded. Rick http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=431958#431958 |

Leaves room for the likes of A/C compressors and P/S pumps and such.Quote: Is there such thing as a matching Argentinian rear exhaust manifold ?
Rear half of stock manifold, just like Dutra setup.

So I may have found a foundry to reproduce the HyperPak exhaust manifolds. Does anyone have an opinion on offering the "Argentinian Front" as an option ? I am looking at doing a straight up reproduction with casting numbers etc., basically an exact replica. Any comments, suggestions, jokes....? |

Get ready for a letter or phone call from Fiat's legal division mentioning things like copyright infringement and licensing fees. Leave off the part numbers and you will probably be OK. I would prefer the Argentinian manifold because I like things like power steering and AC. |

I'm not a lawyer, but AFAIK casting numbers and part numbers and that kind of thing are not legally protectable (or at least virtually never registered as trademarks). Company names, corporate logos (Pentastar, for example) and other such identifiers would definitely be unwise to have on a repro part, though. |

l am a lawyer, but I do criminal law and haven't looked at copyright law since law school 15 years ago. I guess I am just extremely cautious and conservative when it comes to exposing yourself to legal jeopardy. I see all the time how completely innocent behavior with no ill intention can land people in a world of trouble. Dan is probably right that casting numbers and part numbers are OK to reproduce, but I advise you to contact a trademark attorney and get an opinion about it. In my book it is better to spend a couple hundred for an opinion letter up front then thousands down the road if Fiat decides to come after you. Plus, part numbers don't add to functionality but do add to complexity of a mold. Why make a headache you don't need? |

I would guess the people that want a hyperpak setup will want the matched set. The Argentine manifold sticks out farther and is not "aimed" as nice in my opinion. If you get to do this, I have a list of people that were interested in them from back when I was planning to do them. I can get that to you if you like. Rick |

I am interested, although maybe more in the HP than the Argentine. Either way would work, though. Really, I don't think serious folks will want to use a cobbled up rear stock manifold half. Front and rear manifolds would by my preference. Did you take a look at the pics I posted through the link Rick posted. All the best! Lou |

I am an intellectual property attorney. From the start, I have to add a disclaimer, I am not your attorney, this is not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship. OK, that's out of the way, first, I agree to the above comment, why put casting numbers and logos on there and muddy the waters. If you're casting something, and you feel the need to put anything on it, why not your name or some cool new logo that is yours. I don't think there'd be much risk of Fiat coming after you anyway, we're talking about a very limited run, small numbers, nobody making any money. Law suits are about deep pockets. If you were pumping out millions of units and making big money, then you should expect a cease and desist letter or a ding letter asking for money. Even then, we're talking about parts for an engine no longer in production, i.e. nobody would likely care. Does anyone know if Fiat-Chrysler still owns the rights (and has the plans, etc.) to slant sixes? I assume so, but don't have any information. Brian |

Mike, hello. If you remember when you were at my house we looked at both manifolds. I don't think the Argentinian manifold buys you any clearance over the HP. Also I agree that someone wanting the HP mainfolds would want them both. If it's just function I think the Dutra Duals would be most folks choice. Matching an HP intake with HP exhausts would be the cool factor IMO. Casting numbers might lead to some funny business, someone saying they are original. On the flanges, they have drilled holes. |

When I looked into doing these that was one change I had planned to make. I was going to increase the thickness of the outlet flange.

Gosh guys, with all these attorneys now representing me and the Slant 6 Forum behind me, I feel downright invincible..... But seriously thanks for all this input as it all needs to be considered in moving forward. What I'm running into now are the "tooling costs". The actual castings are not too expensive but the cost to set up the mold boxes is pretty high. Maybe after taxes are over I can work up the nerve to pull the trigger. |
