I copied the quote above from a posting where a long rod motor build was being discussed, thought that I would make a new post to not clog or re direct the original post..

my question is: do the squirt holes on the sides of the OE rods really deliver oil to the cam-lifter area?
I have a lot of respect for the person that posted that statement, but it seems like that would be a pretty long squirt of oil from the crank journal to the cam. I always though that the rod oil squirt hole would shoot some oil onto the cylinder bore.

I believe that I had read somewhere that on stock slant sixes the side of the rod that has the oil squirt hole actually changed from one side to the other at some point in time. Is that true?

also, are folks running the after market long rods actually having them drilled to add the oil squirt hole?

Yes, a long while back Dan posted that the orientation was flipped early in the slant's career.

The cast crank rods have the oil hole drilled to face the bottom of the piston and the wall... the cam isn't that far to throw a 'spurt' (a buddy calls a spurt a drip under pressure, but this
does have some inertia to it...and don't forget windage as well if a tray isn't installed). I have noticed on my forged crank mills run at high rpm that there is a fair amount of oil slung toward the
cam area, FYI.

Most are not drilling these holes...but they are only using the car at the track and trailering it there... Technically speaking, its not as needed, but could be worked around
if the lifter bore were scored with the comp cam tool that Josh had shared a while back to put a dedicated dribble from the lifter gallery onto the cam lobe... Before mine were
stolen, I was going to have mine lasered to match the cast crank throw to put a little more cooling on the pistons...and it was going to be a roller cam, so I'd score the bores to
provide steady oiling on the lobe...

I never added them on any of my Molnar K1 rods.

I feel there's enough oil splashing around in there. I had no problems due to this.
