Hey guys! Just purchased my first /6. Got a 1986 d150. I'm looking to give it a bit more power cause the thing can barely get out of it's own way... Doing some research on here and other sites I've seen a lot of recommendations for shaving the head. I was planning on shaving the head .060", getting a new cam, and checking or replacing the timing chain cause it seems a little loose. I don't need this truck to be a super car or anything. With shaving the head and new cam, I'll need new lifters and push rods, anything else I should look out for? Any suggestions for a cam would be extremely helpful. I plan on doing a new carb, intake, and exhaust in the future. Thanks for any help and suggestions!

That's a really good read, thank you! I was thinking of doing this camshaft, lifters, and timing chain https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca- ... /overview/ . It seems like it has most of the good components, only need to get .060" shorter push rods (which I'm having trouble finding) and gaskets.

Be vary wary of buying a new camshaft. It might be best to have a stock cam reground by Oregon Cams. There has been plenty of trouble with new cams eating oil pump drive gears, so a used cam is better. I run regrind cams in my 13 second 64 Dart and 66 Valiant NA Slants and drive the 64 everywhere.

I put this post together to track the process used to pick a regrind profile on a hydraulic cam for an 83 D150

I have had the truck on the road for several years now, just turned 27K since the rebuild, runs fine does what I want it to do.

Pulls fine, I use it for occasional towing,,

and here is the post on the overall 83 D150 re new
