I installed a 1945 straight out of a 67 van that had been sitting in the junkyard since 1985. To my amazement it starts and idles very well, and initial throttle response is leaps and bounds better than the BBS which was on this engine. I have not had the truck on the road or under a load, as it does not have brakes yet.

My question is about the float, and if it is a problem and or is it worth replacing the Nytrophyl float with brass as preventive maintenance?. The truck starts with out the choke. It runs very well stone cold, with no choke.... it seems to run equally well when warmed up. I am telling myself it must be running rich to be as responsive when cold.. (and the idle mixture screw is turned out only 1/2 a turn for best idle vacuum)

Best thing to do is wait. Put some time and miles on it. You may find that the carb will deteriorate quickly, despite running great now.
