Howdy, Lou. When I dropped the wheelbase to 92", removed the second hoop, and added the full width windsheild, I finally got'er down to 1320 lbs dry, rather a "back of the mind" target I've had for awhile. 8)

Yeah, 12.42's her best quarter to date. Usually cycle right around 12.75 on prepped strips, and 13.00 (equivalent) at Eagle Field (1/8th).

Our HA/GR class attempts to capture the builds & racing of late '40s/early '50s drags. We run on 6" (max tread cross section), street patterned bias ply hides. We build pre-62 inliners & flatties only (non-improved design later engines grandfathered in), carbs only (no 4 bbls), pump gas only, sticks only, and no slingshots.
We build'em ourselves, get "brownie points" for doing it in a dirt floor garage, and get a "ration" from other HA/GRers for any parts too new. :lol:

The guys willing to overbuild their engines with more modern parts & techniques, and running slushpumps & slicks're in the Tulsa based spin-off SDRA class, and turning mid 11s. Those of us sticking to the period builds're a second slower. Other than for one trophy called the "HAMBie" we all race together, usually in a bracket class at normal meets. HAMBie's strictly heads up of course, and flag start whenever we can.

Here's my favorite run from '17, against my perennial adversary (at Eagle Field of course 8) ). It's a 200" Ford six weighing in at 1180 lbs, and with a 100 lb lighter driver. We manage to split our races about 50/50, for really great runs most of the time.

Nice run! Looks like she just beat you to the stripe.

There has got to be a 3-speed with a tighter spread between 2nd and 3rd. I think it would help.

Is it cool to bell-mouth your intake tubes? The flow difference is substantial. See page 97 of Davis Vizard's How to Build Horsepower Vol 2 if you can.

Yeah, that one was hers, top end freight train. I couldn't get any tach that whole day, you can hear the flatness at the top of the gears. Eventually found out my middle carb's slide was sticking, and I was running cyls #3 & 4 off the balance pipes from carbs 1 & 3. OK up to about 4500, but all in all not too shabby for a slant 4, eh? :roll:

I'm not having any tach problems (when all 3 carbs're working :lol: ), she'll blow right on past 6500 when I forget, so I likely won't bell the stacks. I think I recall that as more of a '60s thing at the strips on intakes anyway, so wouldn't be cool for my era.

Now belling the exhaust stacks'd be period as all hell. 8)

If I could find a better spread aluminum tail 3 gear that'd bolt to the slant I'd happily buy it. I'm running a QT bell for safety, and could likely cobble something else onto it if I could get it short enough.
