Well the motor in possums old dart has sprung a leak. The rear freeze plug is leaking and I am also getting water in my oil. So this old man will start pulling the motor this week to find what’s up. Just got the car back today after my mechanic buddy installed a nifty nitrous setup on it. I may be iffy for the Virginia race if I have to replace block or head. The machine shops in this area work real slow. As I get older this racing thing gets tougher and tougher. Was really looking forward to what the car would Run on nitrous. Well enough babbling I need to get busy.norm |

No I meant Ron Parker. I need to set the valve lash on this motor and I have no idea what he had them set at. Seems like I remember he said something like .019 for both exhaust and intake but not sure. |

What cam? You could start at 0.020" intake and 0.025" exhaust and see how it runs. Lou |

OK. Well, if no idea, then start with 0.024"/0.028" cold and see how it runs. For most of the hi perf cams I have run, that is pretty close to where they settle in for best running and hot idle. Lou |

Hey Norm, If you're setting valve lash and installing a thermostat housing, it sounds to me like you're gonna be at Wilkesboro! I can take some measurements tonight after work if no one else chimes in before then. |

Should be right around 3/8" X 1" and 3/8" X 1.5" (different lengths) for a stock tstat housing. If using a "straight out" housing, then 1" long for both. Lou |

Well I like setting valve lash then motor is ready to put back in the car. Ron I am really hoping to get to Wilkesboro . Bought an old motor home to pull race car and haven’t had a chance to try it out. It has a 460 in it so should have plenty of power to pull if I can keep gas in it.Norm |

Ok I am really frustrated trying to reinstall this motor. I keep having trouble with the tranny getting in the way. Should I drop drive shaft and push tranny back supported by jack so I can lower motor on motor mounts. This is not easy by yourself. Really want to get this done so I can finish everything in time for north wilkesboro race. Any ideas from people who have done this by their self is appreciated.Norm |
