Hi folks,

Total rookie here rebuilding first engine in his life as I recover from cancer. I needed something fun and rewarding to keep me busy. I finally have enough energy to tackle this work. I sent the slant six off to machine shop and now it’s ready to go and I’m putting it together.

Question.... when I’m at tdc the pistons don’t actually come flush with the deck ... is this ok?

Yes it is normal for them to be below deck unless you built the engine specifically to be at the deck. TDC is just the highest point the pistons reach.

from the factory, a stock 225 slant with a piston at TDC, the piston will be .160 to .180
recessed. If you would measure the recession and cc a combustion chamber you could calculate the
engine's static compression ratio.
