Howdy, Well, the original exhaust manifold on my '71 225-cube Valiant Scamp has a crack in it, and I'm thinking it's time to replace it after the JB Weld repair I made a few years ago is slowly coming apart. I'm not thoroughly familiar with the exhaust componentry (heat risers, etc.) on these manifolds, but was reading up on how the Dorman reproductions you can get require the conversion to a (later model year) electric choke—? In the interests of trying to keep things stock and clean, I was instead considering sourcing an original unit from closer to '71. I may have found one via MoPar City in Illinois, but am looking for the part number for the stock 1971 manifold to compare to the units they have in stock. Would anyone know that number, or be able to tell me where to find it on the part? I couldn't find it on my own manifold, but from my research my best guess is 3671860. (Second question: is it indeed possible to swap to a Dorman piece without the electric choke conversion? Would prefer to go the new part route if it's possible to keep the installation simple and stock.) Apologies for the overwhelming ignorance on exhaust systems operations, here; I've not nearly as much time as I'd like to research this more thoroughly. Thank you for any help! |

I believe your options are a closed choke pocket, which were the earliest slant exhaust manifolds.. in about 73 they have an opening on them.. until the dorman style showed up in 76.. or so.. No idea what part number is involved. that is my understanding of the evolution of exhaust manifolds. Lots of room to be mistaken... but it should not be too hard to source by visual confirmation that you are getting what you all ready have or want.. |

Follow this thread and my links for exhaust manifolds that are manufactured 1973+ Late Manifold Thread Late 60's to very early 70's exhaust manifold should be the open pocket with the "cup" to seal the well. The problem with the late manifolds (like the Dorman unit)... is that there are limited thermostatic choke pull off units for them... 1973 only unit for the Holley 1920, 1974+ unit for the Holley 1945, and the 1977+ unit for the BBD... |
