I have an 1985 Dodge D100 Custom. I have a Comp K64 Kit installed. This July 14th I’m going to go to Carlisle to hopefully score a 2/4 bbl Intake, Headers (Dual/Single) Maybe get lucky and find a combo. But here is the question. If I get a new carberator what do I do with all this vacuum bull crap that goes to my stock 1bbl. I would love to delete it all. Like everything it will look so good without it. But I need some help doing it I don’t know much about how this system works. Also does a 1985 Slant 6 have a high or low starter. I never seen an older slant 6 to know. Also what else should I look out for at Carlisle for increasing the performance of my slant? Thanks for your time. |

Probably the high mount, but look at where your started is. If it is down by the pan rail it is a low mount. If it is 6-8 inches above the pan rail it is the high mount. |

Automatic Transmission in the 80's should be high mount starter... Manual Transmission A-833OD = High mount starter NP435 non overdrive transmission (typically found in D-150 and 4x4) will be low mount starter. This all goes by the wayside if the previous owner did a junkyard conversion for whatever reason... |

Hold up there, Garrett. You want to put two, four-barrel carbs on an otherwise stock slant six? Just because you dropped in a different cam doesn't mean that engine will be able to handle two 4-bbl carbs, and I'd hate to see you do something like that and end up with something that you can't run anywhere, because you can't get it tuned. You might want to seek some advice from folks right here. Roger |

Has anyone manufactured a dual quad /6 manifold? Perhaps he means a two or four barrel capable one. |

I've seen one for another brand... Outside of something that is all out race, I don't think the slant would use a dual 390 cfm holley carb set up efficiently... Back in the late 90's I had penned up the dimensions to make a dual long ram application that would use the even fire setup to even out the intake (dual 2 and dual 4)... but given what I know now, the single 4 hyperpak would do the job without the manufacturing and linkage/setup headaches...and with EFI being accessible, the point became moot for a tuned intake model anyway... |

I think he wants a single 2bbl or single 4bbl. I would use a Holley 350 on an Offy 4bbl intake with a Transdapt or Mr. Gasket adapter plate (summit, or sometimes at parts store), or try to find a good Carter BBD and factory 2bbl intake. Lou |

I'd agree. That's a slush cam with their 252 grind, pretty mild for a quad, unless small & progressive. Decent two barrel'd likely be easier to dial in. I'm running a stock BBD (sideways though) on the 'Toad's Comp 264 grind, milled & ported 225, and it only starves slightly at the far top end, way farther up than I run it mostly. Eventually going to my old reliable SUs of course, but the BBD's doing the job acceptably. I'd have used a 2100 Autolite like I'm using on the float if I'd had another one around. |

I’m from Baltimore. I’m going to Carlisle on Saturday. Sorry for the bad wording. I want to find a 2bbl or a 4bbl. Not a dual anything. Sorry about that haha |

And I would love to try and tuck some wires in my bay but I know how to do that. I just need some info on how the vacuum system works and how to remove the stuff. |

Does your 85 still have the lean burn system? If so, changing to an HEI ignition will allow you to remove all the engine vacuum lines,,, except one for a distributor vacuum can and heat/ac controls and power brakes if equipped that way. There are plenty of HEI threads on this forum. The locked lean burn distributor has a small value to some in the raceing fraternity. So does the lean burn module, if the module is still functioning properly and you can find someone wanting to maintain that system. Look up Wayne Venable at the A&A transmission booth while you are at Carlisle. Wayne is an active member here at .org and probably could help you to decide if the prices you are looking at for the slant six parts at Carlisle are reasonable. |

If you have the ability to work out the logistics of getting your hands on this, it's not all that far away in Columbus, OH. It's a full super-six setup, and at a screaming-deal price. If I could find a way to get it to myself economically, I would have snapped it up already. I forget how to post an active link, but you can copy and paste this in your browser to find it. https://columbus.craigslist.org/pts/d/m ... 18121.html |

Before you start removing hoses and wires, you really should find out what they do. For example, the charcoal cannister has a number of hoses that go to it, but it has zero negative effect on engine performance but saves you money and protect the environment by trapping fuel vapors that would otherwise evaporate. This makes it easier to start your car when it is hot because the charcoal cannister feeds these fuel vapors back into the carb when you start it. Other wires may look messy but are actually necessary for the truck to run properly or for the dash gauges to work right. Before you do anything else I strongly recommend you get a factory service manual for your truck and spend some time readig it and tracing what every wire and hose under the hood connects to. In the short term, there should be a map of the vacuum hoses on the bottom of the hood or on one of the inner fender structures. Use it to follow where the hoses go. |
