| Post subject: | What is the Correct Set Up for Oil Breather Caps? |
I have a 65 A100 using the stock valve cover with the two raised chimneys for the oil breather caps. If one chimney needs to include a pcv valve who sells a breather cap with a built in pcv valve that comes with the clips to push into the chimney? Or, is there another set up that would work? Thanks |

Yes, the rear chimney should have a PCV valve. Someone here should be able to come up with the cap which holds the PCV valve. The front chimney should have a filtered breather. A later model breather with a hose connection is better for emissions, but will require a later matching air cleaner to accept the hose. |

Thanks, Joshie for the info. I thought I would need a pcv valve but I am having trouble finding a cap that comes with a pcv valve or has the right size grommet to fit the chimney where I can insert the pcv valve. |

There's no grommet, it's 100% metal on metal. Crankcase breather is Stant 10061 without the hose connection or 10070 with a hose connection. The PCV valve adapter is also 100% metal and will need to be found in a wrecking yard or from a board member as it's not a maintenance item. I had some, but have parted with almost all my slant parts. V8s of that era used the same part too. |

I believe that originally there was a different one for the 170 and a different for the 225. So, double-check): https://www.ebay.com/itm/NORS-MOPAR-196 ... 0&_ipg=192 The cheaper and much easier (but not so good looking) way is to buy a grommet and plastic valve. I have understood that it is the newer version for our engines and should work for the older too. Check e.g. Rockauto for the parts. I have so far kept the original (nicer-looking, in my view) system. Hope it helps Maurice |

Thanks for the advice wjajr, I'll try that. They did not look very reader-friendly when I posted them. I must say, though, that my head started spinning when I tried to decipher this computer language. I had to sleep over it. I'll give it a try: breather cap See if it works... YES! thank you |

Maurice: Thank you for that information. I did see the metal set up like the link you sent but the place I looked wanted over $100 for it and that is too rich for my blood. Although, the pcv valve is also pricey. I tried to find a grommet that would fit the chimney but no luck, all were too narrow. I ended up drilling a hole in a breather cap and gluing in a pcv valve. I'm not sure if that's a good thing to do, but it was certainly less costly. Again, thanks the research. |
