Post subject:  Early '68 Transmission - which torque converter?

Is it possible to tell if I can use a 1968 and newer torque converter by the transmission part number and build date? Or do I have to count the splines and measure the shaft?

I have an early '68 904 transmission (PK 2892027Y 2237 0651) and it would be optimal to use a '68 and newer converter - just wondering if it's as easy as reading the pan rail data. I can't image being that lucky, but thought I'd throw it out there.

The data indicates it's the correct (assumed original) transmission with an assembly date of September 12, 1967; and #651 off the assembly line as best I can decipher. The engine was cast in June with a final assembly in September 18, 1967.
