So previous owner left me with a trunk full of new in box parts. My valve cover is starting to leak and I am going to replace it, my choices are Felpro Blue Stripe cork/rubber and the Felpro rubber gasket. I have read some other threads that people prefer the rubber but curious if the blue stripe is better. The reason I ask is that two of my rubber gaskets are packaged in boxes smaller than the gasket, they were folded partway from the end of the gasket to fit in the box and I don't like the looks of the creases in them (I think they are 30+ years old). Even if the folded ones are bad I have another rubber in a full size box with a whole top end gasket set, plus a victor reinz rubber that is in a long box. Gasket in car is rubber for what that is worth. Thanks Brandon |

I've reset old rubber gasket to like new condition...……….. Put in jar of paint thinner to soak for awhile. They'll get very very big. Let dry until they shrink back to normal size. Creases and indentations usually are gone. |

Thanks for the reply, I can try to straighten those out then. No one answered if I should just throw out the blue stripe cork or not though.... Brandon |

I see no reason to throw out a perfectly good gasket. It may not last as long as the nicer ones, but a seal that seals, seals when seal sealing is the deal; whether it be the top, or the keel.  ~THOR~ |
