Everything tells me this is a silly question, but has anybody heard of running a race motor Slant without a head gasket? The story was told that the owner played very specail attention to maching the mating services. The real question might be, how gullible am I? ![]() |

It isn't just cylinder pressure you would need to seal. There are all the water jacket spots and the oil feed for the head. I am sure the lifter galley could use something as well. I can't imagine ANY engine running without a gasket of some type. |

Most industrial turbine and turbocompressor cases are mated without a gasket. But in addition to having very flat mating surfaces, they have a very large number of VERY BIG mounting bolts that are often tightened with the use of induction heating. This stretches the bolts out before they are torqued down, to provide what is professionally considered a "$#!+ ton" of clamping force when they cool off again. And they still usually use sealant. |

Yea I agree, sorry to waste anyone's time, besides ,not sure what the gain would be for all the effort.
