Slant 6 Sages, I thought I would let you know that I ordered a cam from Howards Cams, through Summit Racing. Either Howards had it on the shelf, or they ground it very fast. It took 2 days from ordering to get it shipped. I'll update this when it arrives on Friday. Below is the info. This looks like it would make a nice mild cam for a street NA motor, although I the LSA is maybe a bit wide. I am planning to use it for a supercharged motor (Torqstorm), so the wider LSA is preferred. FYI, the overlap @ 0.050" is 0 deg, which is just slightly (2 deg) more than the little MP 244 cam I am running in the turbo Dart. HRS-752002-10 Camshaft, Mechanical Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 256/256, Lift .473/.473, 220/220 @ 0.050", LSA = 110. Chrysler, 170, 198, 225 (Mfr. #: 752002-10) $155 from Summit (free shipping) I thought about calling Howards and asking for more LSA and more exh duration, but since I have zero experience with supercharged motors, I thought this would be as good a place to start as any. Later I might have them whip up a turbo cam with the 220 deg int lobe and a smaller 214 deg exh lobe with a LSA around 112-113. Any thoughts? Lou |

I have had the same experience with recent Summitt orders, the quick delivery is nice.The NA motor in the 68 Barracuda that I have been racing with is the one that I built up as the mule motor for my first supercharged slant. the static compression is set at 8.5 and the cam is the OE cam re ground to Oregon's 819 I and 346 E, I asked them to get me as much lobe separation as possible. ended up as: 219 Intake and 228 Exhaust @ .050 , with zero overlap at .050 per the dyno sim cam manager .436 Intake and .478 Exhaust lift at the valve Lobe Separation 113, Intake Center 105, Exhaust Center 121 with regards to your next cam having a reduced exhaust duration the question that I have is, as long as the intake, exhaust durations and the LSA are set to get near zero overlap at .050, which you have now, (to mimimize blowing the charge out the exhaust), what is to be gained by reducing the exhaust duration? |

Turbos supposedly like less exh duration and superchargers like more, as compared to NA. I am not fully in command of the arguments for these, although I can talk about them a little. Best NA 225 cam should be in the 105 - 108 LSA range. For boost, you open up LSA and drop the overlap. John, I would expect that cam to work very well for a supercharged application. Since the NA 225 seems to like shorter exh duration than int and tighter LSAs than most motors, having an even set and 110 LSA should work well too. I'm sure I will do some experiments over the years. I should have clarified on the shipping. The cam got dropped shipped from Howards. It was not in stock at Summit (I did not expect that) but probably was on the shelf at Howards. Or, they ground it really fast. Lou |

I have bunch of NOS lifters and reground lifters from Oregon Cams. Howards had the cam+lifter kit but the lifter part was $120. I have at least 3 sets on the shelf... I bet Oregon can get you lifters for < $10 each... Lou |

im running this cam right now with 9.1 comp and i love it it has a nice idle to it pulls hard and retains mileage while while delivering alots of torque. |

Glad to hear it! I just dropped off parts at the machine shop for my new short block, so the cam will probably go in there in 2-3 months when I assemble the whole thing. Lou |

That sounds like a good buildup to me! Not really related to cams or anything but are you running a cast crank or steel crank engine in the '68? I'm thinking a cast crank engine would be ok for buildup. My '71 forged crank engine isn't in the best shape and may take whatever I can find. |

Cast crank is fine for anything up to about 350 HP (more than you can really make NA), assuming it is well built. As long as it is in good shape or prepared/built well, I would not hesitate to use a cast cranker in a performance application. Lou |

I am pretty sure the motor in my Valiant is a cast crank. I know the good shortblock I got from Mike is for sure. |

You running this Howard's grind n/a? And with stock auto torque converter ? I was wondering if this cam might be too big for my stock converter, even with 9:1 compression and a little work on the heads. Any advice on this? Thanks |
