Off-kilter:
[awf-kil-ter]
Adjective
1. Not exactly straight or balanced; askew; uneven.
2. Not completely well; somewhat ill.
3. Unusual or eccentric; unconventional.

The perfect team name for a group of Lemons racers building a ’62 Plymouth Valiant 4 door with the “Leaning Tower of Power” Slant 6 engine and a three on the tree.

The car is located in Elizabethtown, KY (near Louisville) with 3-4 team members in the surrounding area and others as far away as VA, NC and GA.

We plan to race at places like Barber, Autobahn, CMP, Ginger Man and Road Atlanta. We’ll keep it street legal and registered so we can do some Lemons rallies and team members can drive it to shows, cruises and local races.

The first order of business is to get it running so we can determine the condition of the drivetrain, followed by brakes and a cage. Then the other 1,769,328 things to get it ready to race!

Slant On!!

Does it have the synchro 1st gear? If not it will be hard to downshift into 1 on the tight turns.

I have no idea Greg. I doubt the three on the tree will last long. I’m trying to gather other manual transmission options. It’s a novelty for now, but the silly fun will lose its allure pretty quickly I’m sure.

Thanks for getting this rolling. Lots of planning and testing will make a reliable and fun LeMons car. Looking forward to participating.

Hey Lou,

Jason, Adam, Joe and I have been exchanging texts and emails. Mad thrash (or at least getting together and doing something  ) planned for Monday!

I usually just wrench alone, so this is really fun for me!

Jason is progressing on the '64 engine as well.

I thought you said it was "OFF" kilt (er). Be careful you don't get disqualified for indecent exposure. :P

Thanks for the heads up, Rob. Good to hear. I will just have gotten back from WI and MN, so I think I'll have to pass on Monday to recharge from travel, and catch up on work. Have a ball and hope to join you soon.

I'll post some progress pics Monday. :D

Charlie,

Lemons is a hoot! All sorts of silliness going around. There is no shortage of "Kilt based" humor...

Excellent! I saw your post on the other forum. Looks like a good list, but after you have it running I'd definitely focus on making it pass safety/tech inspection first. After that comes reliability. Better to have a safe car that doesn't break, as opposed to a car that fails tech or spends most of the race in the paddock. Besides, showing up to your first race with mostly stock running gear just increases your chance of stupid trophies!

I don't know what the gear ratios are for the 3-speed manual, but we never have a reason to use first on track with our A904 and 3.55 rear.

Frank has got it. It needs to pass tech before you/we can think about anything else. That is a LONG list of items.
