So my 225 cracked a piston ring (I think) after its rebuilt head was put back on it. I didn't drive it more than maybe 50 miles then starting it to keep things moving. Finally have time and I've pulled the engine to rebuild that bottom end now. Nothing crazy: clean the block, make sure bores are round, and clean up surfaces. Reuse pistons and new rings. Right now it's a 72 225 with the Carter BBD 2 barrel, super six setup. Stock 904, stock torque converter. 8.25 with 3.23 open gears. Head when rebuilt was milled 0.030" and had a simple valve lap. Stock springs, new seals. I do not know specifics on compression ratios, I'll tear it apart soon and figure it out. Would it be beneficial to change out the stock cam to regrind it? More than likely will go with Oregon Cam or Delta Cam (both relatively local to me). No I am not sure what cam I would go with, nothing to where I need to modify much else on my engine. This in my Dart will be my street cruiser, I want to drive around on cruises and to car shows but get into the highway speeds. Just wondering if it's worth pursuing or just leave it alone. Thank you! |

Since you will have it apart anyway, now is the definitely the time for more cam It is very worth it, provided you do all the math and choose the new grind wisely. Sounds like you are on your way to doing that, so if you need advice on which grind to pick please keep us posted as you generate specific engine numbers. Good lookin' car |
