Hello all, I recently purchased a 73 Dart, and it wasn't running right. I rebuilt the carb, which seemed very clean inside, being sure to blow out every passage with carb cleaner. I stretched the accelerator pump spring to make sure it had a good strong push. My issue is that something seems to be intermittently obstructing the accelerator pump outlet. It pulls back fine, and then you open the throttle/ release the pump and it absolutely crawls back in. And its not the spring. It goes so slow I have time to press on the pump and i cant even push it in faster. Oddly though, this issue seems heat related. When stone cold, I usually get a few pumps before it locks back up again. Any suggestions? Thanks |

Well I fixed my own problem but rather than deleting this I’ll leave a remark for anyone else with this issue. It was probably debris of some kind. I sprayed carb cleaner in the two holes in the throat as described by Dan on various threads. And that didn’t make much difference (though I feel it was important to get the cleaner in there). So then out of frustration I tried just beating the top of the carb with a wrench and surprisingly enough that worked. Everything is freed up and the accelerator pump is pumping as it should. |

Thanks for sharing "what worked". As the psychiatrists say, that gives us "closure". And on this site, many of us need psychiatric help! |
