I am the new owner a '61 Dart Sweptline truck. 1/2 ton short bed uteline with 225. It was a one owner truck. I got it from the estate. It has minimal rust, the wood bed is still in good shape. Its been setting awhile so I'll need to redo the brakes, clutch and other basics, but the body is solid and dent free. It needs a new windshield. I like the fabricated rear bumper, which must have been locally made. I intend to drive it and use it as a truck. |

Well, now that I know they used the Dart name on a truck, I must go re-ponder my existence ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-v9--D-TdE |

I'm not sure where to host photos. As I can see it, the main difference between '61 and '62 thru early '65 is the aluminum grill on the '61. The '61 instrument cluster has round gauges. I had looked at a '65 but it was relatively rusty and this truck is mostly solid. There is a small rust hole on the leading edge of the hood.. Even in south Texas, Sweptline trucks are usually rusted on the inner and outer rockers, bottom of the doors and even in the roof drip edge. I think there was also a Phoenix Dart in '61. |

Yep, there was a full size Dart, with sub model Phoenix and I think some other submodel names. Lou |

The truck is equipped with a gun rack. Its got an aftermarket heater with no controls in the dash. No radio or a knockout plate where one would be. I haven;t been able to open the hood - stuck. |

The hood latch is frozen. The safety catch is free. Any suggestions on how to get the hood open? Tim |

B'Last it wit PB B'Laster.. If you can get a propane torch in there after the pb blaster that can help too! Watch out for flare ups when adding fire to the wet pb b'laster.. maybe keep you air hose and water handy. Greg |

I sprayed PB Blaster and two minutes later the latch opened. I hadn't seen a motor with a draft tube lately. The starter is different and I suppose the carb is a BBS. Its got an oil bath oil cleaner. The dipstick shows the oil has turned to sludge. I can turn over the motor by hand. I'm going to drop the oil pan and clean out the sludge. Tim |

Good to know you were able to pop the hood open. I would sure like to see some pictures of the dart truck. Maybe dad truck would also like to see the dart truck. Greg |

Its got a direct drive starter. I'm planning to remove the valve cover and the oil pan tomorrow. The motor oil on the dipstick is as thick as grease. There's no evidence that the motor was ever yellow - dirty, but its almost as old a myself. The registration window sticker says 2000. One of the front brakes was stuck but the adjuster was too tight. I've ordered new wheel cylinders and a clutch slave cylinder. I pulled the rear drums - replace axle seals. I'll get some photos |
