Post subject:  Identical upper and lower compression rings?

Hi,

I just got a new set of Mahle piston rings and the rings are assorted in three boxes inside the package. Everything is clear so far, upper compression rings, lower compression rings and oil rings are sorted in the package. The thing I'm kinda wondering here is that all the compression rings seem the same, they have dots for indicating which way goes up but there is no labeling or indicating which ones are upper and which ones are lower compression rings. And when I compared them for any differences there doesn't seem to be any.

Are the upper and lower compression rings for the 225 Slant six really identical?

- Thanks, Jukka

Is there a bevel on the inside of one or both of the compression rings? Did you buy plain rings or moly? It's possible that they are the same, but usually they have some differences. If you dig around the Hastings Rings website you can find the ring types they sell for the slant and descriptions of each. https://www.hastingspistonrings.com/piston-rings

Thank you for your answer! Actually they were labeled, I just didn't notice the writings on the box.
