In reading Doug's book and from my (limited) knowledge... Am I correct in saying these parts are interchangeable with a slant-6? -Main bearings with 383? -Timing chain & small gear with 383 & 440? -Oil slinger with SB&BB engines? -Crankshaft keys with SB&BB engines? -Lifters with SB&BB engines? -Valvesprings with SB engines? Anything else? |

I thought the mains were 440? |

Slant sixes and RB engines (413, 426, 440) are 2.75" main journal. B engines (350, 383, 400) are 2.625". Note that there was in the early days an RB 383. Are the RB and /6 main bearings the same, no. At a minimum, the oil holes aren't in the same location. The lifters don't functionally interchange except for solid lifter 273 to /6. Almost all other Chrysler V8s are hydraulic lifter and those lifters are different from the /6 hydraulic lifter. The nose of the /6 crank is the same as the A/LA and B/RB. Chrysler kept the crank nose dimensions common for a long time. Other than the reduction in keyway size the crank noses are the same to the very first V8s. I'm using a stepped key to put an LA damper on my 1957 Dodge 315 hemi. B/RB oil pump springs interchange with the /6. Milodon made an adjustable oil pump spring cap for the B/RB engines. I considered trying it to dial in my oil pressure, but it's not so easy to access the oil pump on a /6. |

When slants still used the rope rear seal I used to buy rubber seals that Mr. Gasket or someone similar sold for I believe it was 392 Chryslers. |

Main caps interchange with RB - Machining required to build the Thrust, and of course to match them to the block. Timing set interchanges- With Machining or spacer depending on how you wish to align the timing gears. CJ |

Never ordered RB bearings when working on an RG. The thrust would be completely wrong to start with. The engine I put billet caps in took a whole bunch of bearing work for aluminum rods.. Slant bearings really didn't fit the slant in this instance. As far as oil passages, the alignment of the oil transfer to the rod bearings could be an issue. With some mods, the RB bearings could work, but I'd think you'd be more prone to spinning a bearing. I haven't done this, so don't know if this would really be an issue. In a pinch, I suppose you could use the non thrust RB bearings with a bit of drill work. You'd still need a slant thrust, and if using RB caps, one needs ot be machined to fit the slant thrust bearing. CJ |

@JCC, My question was to identify if any alternate parts existed under different part-numbers and such - a few were mentioned in DD's book. Interchangeability was my main focus. But... I wouldn't rule out opting for an alternate performance part of one existed. I was hoping for clarity on the matter, but I don't think that's what I ended up with :) |
