As the title says, I completed a slant 6 swap earlier today, and upon starting it, noticed that it would only run on three cylinders and sometimes it would stop. after dinner I'm going to go get some fresh gas for it (it's been sitting for ten months) but I wanted to see if anyone could find fault with my wiring.

the larger green plug that goes on the alternator in on the top, I don't know if that's correct.

Your question has nothing to do with your problem; however, the answer is that it doesn't matter. The regulator is only a switch that turns the field on and off.

Your problem is likely in the ignition system. Since it's a swap I'd suggest replacing the distributor cap, rotor, plugs, and plug wires as standard procedure. Maybe the ignition module is faulty.

First, get a decent manual.

Second, check everything associated with the ignition system. Try cleaning all the connectors and parts, check the wires for integrity. check that the plug wires go to the correct plugs, and check the initial timing.

Did all that before I posted. It was, in fact, bad gas - did more testing after posting and found a sooty puddle of water under the exhaust pipe. Runs well now.
