Be careful for a couple of reasons: 1. Not just the gears. You need the governor assembly that goes with them, or it won't shift right no matter how you adjust the linkage. 2. I had an idea very similar to yours when I was working up a trans for my '65 years ago: Hey, better acceleration plus quiet highway cruising with the wide-ratio gears! The trans went together fine, and I hated it. The gaps/jumps between gears were too large. I put up with it for longer than I should have, then wound up much happier once I swapped in a trans with the ordinary ratios. I think those wide-ratio Torqueflites are best suited to the stupid-tall rear axle ratios (2.45, 2.26) in the heavy '80s cars with their weak, wheezy engines. |

I also like the closer ratios (original 904) better. Lou |

Hmm.. OK thanks guys. Good background. Maybe I'll just stick with stock. Seems a shame I babied that 998 all those years, for nothing! |
