It's been a while since I read it, but I have searched and can't find it. How much and where do I have to grind on the block to fit dual Dutra duals? |

I don't remember having to grind the block, but I would guess it would be the two square blocks at each end below the deck line. |

That's what I thought. Just couldn't remember how much needed to be cut off. |

I think John posted something on that way back when. Maybe even some pics. Shoot him a PM. |

I cut the two manufacturing lugs away, about even with the side of the block. The two Dutra manifolds that I have on the D150 also needed some minor clearancing to allow room to insert a thin wall socket to tighten the manifold nuts. Do an trial install of the manifolds prior to setting the motor in the engine bay. Include installing the starter, it can get tight at the rear flange, although I believe Aussiespeed has corrected that. |

Thanks fellas! I'll lop off the casting lugs and check the fit of the manifolds. |

When I installed dual Dutra duals, I didn't grind the block lugs off at all. I first used these manifolds on a '64 block, and then on a '73 block. That's not to say they wouldn't line up better if I did some grinding, but it didn't look necessary. Now I want to go outside and look to see how close they are. For the starter, I can confirm that the "super mini starter" clears the rear manifold with plenty of room. I used a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L V8 w/manual transmission as my application when ordering the part. It's no smaller than a regular mini-starter, but it uses a planetary reduction gear and tucks up closer against the block. Necessary modifications include drilling out the threaded hole on the starter, and then countersinking one of the bell housing bolt holes in the engine block to accept a flat-head bolt. (Otherwise the starter solenoid interferes with the bolt head.) You also need to change the smaller wire to a spade terminal. A heat shield is still highly recommended; we melted our starter wiring after about two Lemons races. |

I'm already running a Dakota starter, which is probably the same part. It freed up a lot of room, but I miss the classic laughing dolphin Mopar starter sound. |

I don't miss the old boat anchor starter...the mini starter is way better. If you want to hear the old one, just watch old episodes of Adam 12 or whatever...early ones, with the '67 Belvedere...not the AMC products they used later. |
