I think Uncle Tony is pretty much spot on. 3" exhaust from engine to bumper seems a bit big but who knows. He is a very accomplished racer/builder from Top Fuel on down.

When watched I didn't see the entire video. Don't know if that is the case for everyone. Here is the whole thing -hope it's not just repeated.

The original poster's link is set to start at 1,535 seconds into the video. To see it from the start back up the time is now marker when watching it.

That happens to be the section when he begins to chst about dual vs large single exhaust.

I've watched some of his other videos. Relatively unimpressed so far.

Thanks Dennis. Watched the whole shootin match. Don't use oversize valves- don't ever put a 198 rod in a 225. I have done it all - but have never built a performance slant.

I'm not sure I understand the part about some of the cylinders turning different RPM than others.

Not different tach, just different tach tuning. Spreads the base of the torque band.

I am not sure as well. Even lit up a cig and it still didn't make no damn sense. Double negatives and all.

Hmmmm. So I'm not the only one that has doubts about his "qualifications" and information accuracy. I notice there was no mention at all of this board.

He has one where he looks at a nice driver quality 340 Duster for sale. Seller openly states it is not an original car, and this clown went around and pointed out everything that wasn't correct, on a car no one was claiming was correct.

I know what he was trying to say re: tuning runner lengths for different RPM's but that's the problem with 'teaching'...you have to be clear as to what you're saying.

But really....saying that the 'genius' of the Mopar engineers shows in the different length runners is pretty one sided. It's awesome sounding to say they broadened the torque range of the Slant by using different lengths...but in reality (as always) the engine design was driven with a definite nod to packaging. The runners are different lengths because they pretty much need to be to allow the carb to sit halfway close to the engine. Compromise.

This is also shown in the Hyper Pak manifolds of the same era - they moved the carb away from the engine and the runner lengths are much closer to one another. On purpose. After all, the mantra of almost any engine design seeking to maximize output is 'make each cylinder the same'.

I also am not so sure the 'factory exhaust manifold can't be improved upon'....

The context of the video is the slant six isn't a performance engine, that its a workhorse motor with the design compromises aiming at economy of manufacture and operation - same purpose as the Corvair and Falcon six was aimed at - that the design goal was intended to be the 170 and the 225 was basically a freebie that is limited by the original goal and manufacturing tooling. There are folks on P15-D24 site that get upset when someone says the flathead isn't a performance engine. Don't get too serious about this stuff!

The video dude is on FABO as WhitePunkOnNitro. He goes fast with Slant-6 motors; I'm sure some of his advice is good. IMO you get more reliable advice from Doug (Doctor Dodge), Rick Covalt, Lou, Fopar, Ceej, Slantzilla, and a pretty big list of others.
