Post subject:  Weber Redline carb - good deal?

I was at a junkyard today and the guy there said he had parted out a 63 Dart with a Slant Six. He showed me the remains, which included the auto trans ($100) and, oddly, the intake which still had a 1-2 barrel adapter and a Weber carb.

The setup was obviously a 'kit' for the early Slant Six as it is a cast adapter and the linkage adapter is also not 'home fabbed'.

He wants $90 for the adapter and carb. Should I buy it?? I need it like a hole in the head but it might be fun to mess with. Or is it misery to mess with?

Is it a staged 2 barrel or synchronous opening? I think any real gains would come without the adapter and a direct mount to a 2 or 4 barrel manifold.. I ran a holley/weber staged 2V on an adapter on a Ford 250 six and the gain was minimal.

If the carb is in good shape, it's a fair deal. Someone around here is always looking for a good functioning carburetor. Also, if you get the "Jeep" adapter this can go on a Super Six manifold and function well. It's about as flow capable as the Super Six BBD so not a great HP carb.

Thanks guys. I'll probably pass on this as I have too much junk already lol. It is a progressive linkage, FWIW.

That's probably a fair deal for the Weber carb, even if it needs a rebuild. I think those go for ~$300 new. One thing I like about these is that the throttle linkage points the right way for the early-60s stock mechanical throttle rod, so you don't need to convert to a cable throttle. On this one, it looks like someone may have just cut off the U-shaped linkage from their stock single-barrel carb, drilled a hole, and bolted it to one of the holes on the Weber linkage plate (or whatever it's called).

Anyway... where's this junkyard, and does the guy have any other old Mopar garbage?

He's near Hardy and ..I forgot but it a few miles south of BW8. No Mopar stuff but he does have an early Slant Six, disassembled, and the 904. Not much else Mopar. He does lots of Medium duty truck stuff...like school bus sized chassis stuff. Plus he has some MG's he dying to get rid of...some of everything actually. If you want the carb, be my guest! PM me ...
