Interesting video on YT. Am curious to hear experienced engine builders feedback. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok77bbi_WAw Part 2 has worthwhile chassis/brake upgrades. Basicly what I want to do to my 1972 Valiant. |

Do you think that rear sump truck oil pan will fit in that Duster? Also, looked to me that they had the cam bolt washer on backward. I always put the convex side of the washer out, thinking that the compression from the bolt tension on the washer would help keep the bolt tight. Don't know, that is how I do it. Interesting that there was no mention of a degree wheel, just align the dots. First time I had ever heard that one needs to loosen the head bolts in reverse order of the tightening sequence, or the head will warp. |

I think loosening the head bolts in reverse order is one of those "good practice" things that doesn't actually matter much, at least not for a cast iron head. A friend sent me that video a few days ago. It has some neat tips for engine assembly, but doesn't include any of the information you'd actually want when planning your own build. Details of machine work, compression ratio, camshaft choice (and degreeing)? No, just slap a few thousand dollars of sponsored parts together. Someone attempting to replicate that build without all the free parts would be spending a hell of a lot of money for what's going to be a very mediocre engine. |

I agree with Frank - there are lots of missing details and "ta-dah!" moments. 'Our first block was unusable, so here's another one ready to install' is roughly equivalent to the AM news cooking segments where the host throws a bunch of ingredients in a pan, places said pan under the counter, and turns around to pull a completed dish out of a prop oven. Videos like this (and 'reality' TV shows featuring auto restoration/modification) end up being Sponsored Glossy Fluff instead of including actual informative documentation. On the other hand, it is at least nice to see the Slant getting some favorable press. |

Anyone watching needs to know if you don't degree the cam there is a 50/50 chance that you will be very disappointed. I did like the hemi oil seal idea. Has anyone in the real world tried it. Or a part number for it. |

The videos said the Duster had a 3.21:1 rear ration. Is that an 8 1/4? |
