The PO stripped every bit of wiring out of my 64 Dart prior to selling it to me. Thanks a lot! So after I paint it, should I attempt to put all of the old wiring back in?OR contact an AAW company and see if they can hook up with all new? I. wont be adding any custom gauges, or even powerful radio or AC. Pretty much stock except for motor. work and ignition. Advantages? Disadvantages? other than expen$e James 'aka Freds Garage |

recommend that you get a FSM or other good service manual that has a schematic of the original wire routing. Then pin the harnesses out on something like a 4x8 sheet of plywood or the garage floor so you can get a good look at it. Now would be the time to access corroded connectors, worn or modified wires. Once you know exactly what you have it will be easier to make the decision to re install or replace. I am not an expert on early A bodies, but from what I have read the wiring harnesses from that era were really light on wire gauge and fuses. Even though you are not doing any serious power using upgrades, understand what you have and consider upgrading the fuse box and adding relays for the head lights, ignition. You may not need a complete new harness, but potentially upgrade sections of it. If you do decide to upgrade the fuse / relays. You can spend money and get nice new ones or visit your local pull apart and get a modern power distribution block for a few dollars. I added a power distribution block ( fuse and relay box) from a mid 90's Caravan to the 83 D150 when I re newed that vehicle. As I am familiar with those boxes now I have another one that will go on the 68 Barracuda as the wiring on that vehicle progresses. You may have seen this, a recent post that uses a pull a part find. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... 28&t=63915 |
