I have a Carter one-barrel carburetor with the linkage pictured here (less the spiderwebs). Sitting still, it runs beautifully on my 1969 Coronet Slant Six; however, I believe the linkage is for a car with a throttle rod and my car has a throttle cable.

Is there a known work-around that would marry these two (and the trans kickdown) that does not include finding the throttle rod setup? Or is this just a futile exercise?

Thanks in advance.

No. This is not an appropriate carburetor for your car; you need one with the correct type of throttle lever. You'll easily find a home for a good-running carb like this what you have, though.

What Dan said. These early rod-linkage carbs are getting harder to find, so you shouldn't have any trouble selling or trading it for a later one that's set up for a cable.

Thanks. I truly appreciate the quick replies. But, hey, at least this carb proved that the car still runs* after sitting all summer while I fixed the floorpan and the brakes! So it's got that going for it, which is nice. If anyone needs one of these carbs, let me know.

*I checked the oil level first and will change the oil before driving!

Having proved to myself that the car runs, I rebuilt the Holley 1920 that the car came with and after a bit of tuning, all is well. But the 1920 does have an interesting feature—there’s a threaded hole in the base right next to the distributor vacuum port. What’s supposed to go there? I put a fine thread bolt in there for now but is that a long-term solution?
Thanks in advance.

That's for this.

Thanks Dan; much appreciated.

You also solved my next two questions ("is that what this extra metal tube and fuzzy sleeve thing in my parts box are for?" and "what's the deal with this round thing on the exhaust manifold?")

But there's a question hiding behind those two: can an authentic-looking replacement woven sleeve be found?

Not only can it be found, it can be purchased.

What's the right method for connecting the carb de-icing pipe to the manifold? It appears to be a 1/4" tube/carb fitting and a 1/4" hole on the manifold. Can I just fit 3/16" tube into the manifold?

Hello speedbanana, I am restoring a 1972 dodge stepvan. Having some difficulty with the Carter single barrel carb on it, model 1916. I am interested in purchasing your that you mentioned at the beginning of this thread. It sounds as if you have replaced it with a Holley carb. Let me know as I'm currently looking for a carb. Is yours original? Also, what model is it?
Cheers!
Karl
