I recently replaced the power steering gearbox due to leaks on my 79 Volare 4 door sedan. I purchased a rebuilt unit from Orielly's (MasterPro). I'm now experiencing hard steering (acts like I don't have power steering). The power steering pump is only 2 years old and the steering was fine before replacing the steering gear. Any thoughts on what the problem could be? I'm considering getting another unit from Napa. |

You got a defective gearbox. If you're able, get your money back (where's the core?) and use a reputable vendor like Firm Feel or Steer And Gear. |

Buy crummy parts, get crummy results. Forget that "remanufactured" garbage. Buy from Steer & Gear or Firm Feel if you want to upgrade to some actual feel-of-the-road at the steering wheel, or from RedHead if you want to retain the factory "steering wheel connected to nothing" feeling but want a box that's been rebuilt properly. O'Reilly is fine for stocking up on name-brand oil and filters when they're on sale. Fine for picking up car wash supplies, a pack of fuses, a can of carburetor cleaner, wiper blades, a battery if that's the nearest place when yours dies. For actual working car parts? Pfft. No. |

I'm in Seattle, and Redhead has OH'd 4 for me. Good results. |

Update: Just installed a Red Head rebuild into the blue 75 Swinger. Love it. Feels like the new rental car I drove last year. |
