Good morning,

I have just purchased my first independent engine for a rat rod project and chose the slant 6 as I though it looked cool. When I got it back to the house I placed it on my engine stand and found out the hard way that if the engine stand pin is really tight it probably means that when pulled the engine will flip over in a violent and rapid fashion. While it fortunately stayed on the stand, it did give me a good look at the bottom of the engine and I noticed what at first appeared to be a hole in the block under the oil filter assembly. After inspecting it, I am hopeful that it is supposed to be there as there is blue paint on the edges of the hole, which I believe would be from the factory. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me?

Sincerely,

Paul Barrow

PS I am unsure if my photos will load so here is some additional description. The "hole" is below and behind the oil filter and directly above where a serialized data plaque is screwed in with two flat head screws. The hole has two distinct holes in fact, with a small point coming in between them that touches down the the gasket. If anyone can help, I can email photos directly. Thank you for your time.

They redesigned the casting in later years to a 5 bolt oil pump and eliminated a pocket,
