At 3400 lbs, it would take 203 HP to run 14.85. Depending on Super Stock rules, it should be doable.

That combo is a turd. You really need to drop into V or go to an F or M body with a Super Six motor. A 1bbl combo will be a really tough nut to crack. Even the 2bbl combo is not as good as it used to be, but you could run 3 or 4 under easy enough.

CharrlieS has experience with this.
Is the Feather Duster a Supersix or are they one barrels? Either way seems a lot to ask. Having said that I will be cheering you on if you do it.
Is the car a 4-speed? I'd think it needs a clutch or lots of converter and steep gears, plus a VERY good head, a good legal stocker cam and stellar blueprinting, tuning and suspension set up.
There are some smart and very helpful guys on here. You have come to the right place.

Hello, how is everyone? So here goes my first post.

I am acquiring a 1976 Plymouth Feather Duster. My intent is to build a stock eliminator car to compete in NHRA's U/SA class. That would put the index for the 1/4 mile at 14.85 and the 1/8 mile at 9.30.

So my question, is this doable? Before I dive head first into this I want to make sure it is something that can be done without breaking the bank.

Hello, how is everyone? So here goes my first post. I am acquiring a 1976 Plymouth Feather Duster. My intent is to build a stock eliminator car to compete in NHRA's U/SA class. That would put the index for the 1/4 mile at 14.85 and the 1/8 mile at 9.30. So my question, is this doable? Before I dive head first into this I want to make sure it is something that can be done without breaking the bank.

NHRA rates the feather duster at 20.55 lbs per HP and rates the slant six at 135 HP so 20.55*135 = 2,774 lbs for the car + 170 for the driver =2,944 total weight. I believe a Feather Duster is about 2950 lbs and I weigh 220 so I am looking at 3,170. Car and Driver.

Can I run a super six and be NHRA legal, I dont believe the Feather Duster came w/ a Super Six, did it? I can drop into V for sure if I need too. That is 15.50 1/4 and 9.65 1/8.

I am not 100% sure if it had the super six option. No pics yet. I am probably picking up the car this weekend or next. A family friend has it right now so its not going anywhere until I have time to get it.

Super Six 225 was 1978 model year introduction so no 2bbl Feather Duster.

If I cannot get the slant six to work, I will probably take the car and make a GT SS car so I can run a 318 or 360.

If the slant 6 wont work I will just switch to the GT SS class and run a 318 or 360. Basically, with the experience of all the racers here, I was hoping someone has already done this and give me an idea if it was truly feasible before I spend the money.

GT class will test your wallet. Spend a lot of time reading the class guides and choose accordingly. Just a guess, but your best bet will probably be a later model 4bbl 318 or 360. For Stock, change the grille, claim it as a '74 and run a 360 4bbl. You might also need to change the hood and decklid, but I doubt anyone will care unless you go out and run 1.2 under.
