My slant takes a few secconds before it gets oil pressure after it starts. It's been about two years since it's been rebuilt. It makes an unhealthy racket for those moments as I cringe! I have FiTech and as I start it, I let it prime without any pedal, which gives it about 5-10 seconds of cranking delay before it fires Any suggestions ? |

Momentary Lack of Oil Pressure was one of Pink Floyd's less successful albums... Are you letting it delay start intentionally? No reason to do so...and most EFI systems don't need to prime for anywhere near that long. Maybe you need an oil standpipe on your oil pump. |

Or maybe try a different oil filter. |

My old tired engine does that. Probably rod clearances are loose. Engine was good until i cross threaded oil filter after oil change.. pumped 3 qts on driveway before i caught it. Now rattles as you describe. Greg |

Start using Wix № 51806 oil filters. They have a built-in standpipe which, together with the anti-drainback valve, keeps the filter full of oil in base-down applications like this. It will also be a good idea to service the oil pressure relief valve to make sure it's not stuck partway open, as described in these two threads: thread 1, thread 2. |

GregCon, Yes, and it's one helluva great album too.  . In the morning when I fire it up if I blip the pedal she fires immediately but if I don't touch the pedal it'll spin for a few seconds (probably 3-4, not 5-10 as first stated) before firing. The rest of the day she'll usually start at a blip of the key. Dan, thanks for your advice on the WIX part number. I'll look for the crocus cloth and service the relief valve. |
