I am 68 years old and building my first slant. I have built small block Mopars since I was 16. I have a 64 V200 wagon 3,400 lbs stock eng with offy and 390 holley 904 2.9 gears. My plan is I have a 66 std block pistons .170 in hole going to port a 77 peanut head do all mods from your book. Cam choice 2106R Oregon cams Intake closes 31*ABDC will be cutting head to get 52cc chambers.Head gasket bore 3.520 compressed to .035 gives 8.403 static comp and dynamic comp of 8.03 and 161 cyl pressure. Going to use offy intake 390 holley stock ex manifold 2 1/4 ex all the way out. Want it to be a good road car with a little more snap How much timing would you think I can getaway with 30*32*34*ect. I also have a new old stock melling oil pump 7/9/90 should I use the gear on the pump or use my old one . Any suggestions would be greatly apprecited. Thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge. Wardo |

Set the total advance at 30 degrees to start.8 to 10 degrees of initial should be about right. You may need to re-curve the distributor to get 20 degrees of mechanical advance. Quote: I also have a new old stock melling oil pump 7/9/90 should I use the gear on the pump or use my old one
It is best to use the "known" gear that has been run and show a nice wear pattern.DD |

Make sure if recurving to use a new Standard Motor Product VC-239 vacuum advance can with the 8.5x stamp on the arm for highway economy with that combination. |

Is the valiant really that heavy? I don't think it should be near that weight.
