Did you just build a "clutch-flite"? That appears to be a 904, but modified to bolt to a scattershield for a dry clutch. Roger |

Yep....my latest project. A 904 made into an 'old school' clutchflite with hydraulic throwout bearing and external pump. I'm guessing it's the world's only Slant Six clutchflite and only 904 clutchflite...though I could be wrong! This allows me to do full speed (4000RPM) take-offs, lol. |

It's a McLeod hyd bearing, I think I bought one for a T56 but they all seem to be 'close enough'. The bell is the QT one I modified for the 10.5" clutch / 130 tooth 30lbs Schiefer flywheel. I also had to add the mounting tab for the column shifter linkage lol. The clutch is the basic McLeod 75109 diaphragm type. As it sits, I could remove the 904 and install an 833 without touching the bellhousing forward. The engine-bell bracket was graciously donated by Rob! The 904 is actually a 998 and I used most of the usual HP parts as well as turning the TC feed passage into a 7th pump bolt. The front pump is no longer there...I use the KRC pump driven off the crank. The original PS pump had to move up to make room so I switched to a Saginaw PS pump while I was at it. The trans is 3" rearward compared to stock so the driveshaft had to be cut accordingly.

Fascinating. I'd like to see you make some 1/4 mile runs and then change the trans for an A833 to see if the better gear split in the 4-speed overcomes the time it takes you to shift. |

Thanks everyone. These pics show the trans in the car with the hoses installed. I'm still waiting for some material to make the clamps I want, and some exhaust shield, so ignore the hose clamps on the exhaust, etc. The small black hose coming out of the bell is the pressure side of the TO bearing and the other hose is the bleeder. Then, the larger black hoses are the suction and feed for the trans itself. The engine shot shows a bit of the hydraulic master cyl. The shaft....always been the hardest part of this project. The stock Mopar shaft uses shaper-cut splines on the small end, and rotary cut splines on the big end. I don't have the ability to do the shaper cut splines...so I made a CAD drawing and had a local gear shop make the shaft out of 300M steel that is normalized and heat treated. Let's just say by the time all that was done, the shaft cost as much as I bought the car for! As for speed....I'd guess in 1/4 mile the clutchflite would win. Especially if the engine were bigger and had no need for more gear. Even with the Slant, I think the faster shift, and one less shift, would win. Then, I'd be surprised if you could actually use all 4 gears of an 833 in the 1/4 unless you had some steep rear gears.
