I have a 1985 S/6 is the balance harmony pulley bolt used to press the pulley on ? Or to tighten and remain screwed to crank ? I am missing that bolt and the general parts store can’t find it ? If someone has it or an extra can I purchase it from you ? Thanks
Keep on Trucken

There is no bolt, though you could add one if you did so desire.

They are the same as a small block mopar la engine.

Those all have them as they are needed in the LA engine with a looser balancer slip fit.

Most Slants did not have bolts until the early-mid 70s. By the 80s I bet all of them had the bolt. I still do not think it was necessary as the balancer was a stiff interference fit. You need a harmonic balancer installer (parts store or summitracing.com or similar) to put the balancer on, as the bolt will not do it.

You can buy a hardware store bolt - 3/4" fine thread, and 2 - 2.25" long (if I recall correctly). Need some really thick grade 8 washers too that are 1.75 - 2" outer diameter.

Best, Lou

Hmm. My 80's Slant experience is very limited but, for example, the '81 I have did not have a bolt, nor did it ever appear to have had one.

I also wonder about the small block bolt fitting, at least with Power Steering. If there were a bolt and washer, the washer would prevent the PS pulley on the crank from registering as it fits into the ID of the damper.

Not saying I'm right...just wondering what I'm missing.

The bolt has always been a crap shoot. I always put one in because it makes it easy turning the motor over with a wrench if necessary.

I don't own a Slant car with power steering though.

Yes, I did add a bolt during my transmission project...I had to turn the engine over a million times by hand to indicate-in the bellhousing. But...I made a spacer that goes between the bolt head and crank snout so all the bolt does is allow me to turn the crank. It doesn't do any fastening.
