The Rally Dash in my 68 Slant Barracuda did not have a tachometer in the center pod. I know there are many articles and postings on various forums where folks added after market tachometers, to the rally dash center pod, but in most cases the look ( to me anyway ) was a tachometer bezel within a tachometer bezel. Classis Industries sells a Mopar 'Rally Dash' tachometer, they actually have two different models that are said to be copies of the OE units for appearance. Issue is these tachometers unlike most aftermarket Tachometers are v8 only, there is no selector switch or wires to cut to set the tachometer from a v8 to a six cylinder usage. Going for a real retro look, I purchased one of the Classic Industries V8 tachometers and mated it to a device named Tach-Adapt. The Tach-Adapt seems to have been developed out of the Porsche market where enthusiast put a six cylinder motor into 4 cylinder cars and so forth. http://www.ashlocktech.com/ The Tach-Adapt converts about any cylinder configuration ignition to work with about any non adjustable tach. I have mine installed and although I have no experience with extended run time, in multiple garage engine starts through warm up the V8 tachometer appears to be absolutely accurate, it mirrors the tachometer that shows on my laptop and is read direct from the MS3 ECU. I think it would be interesting to know if Mopar ever offered a tachometer in a Rally Dash that had a six cylinder motor... Just passing this on in case anyone encounters this.... |

Cool, thanks for sharing. I often wondered if there was such a product. |

Nice I have some pics of this conversion on Instagram if anyone is interested. In one of the images, I noted and illustrated how I wired it so I can easily convert back to V8 configuration from underneath the dash (without removing anything). Feedback is always welcome. https://www.instagram.com/p/BTKYZPKFdvM/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BTSkJBUlWut/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BTU19KhF0RF/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BTAdGCRlfPv/ @dadtruck and I were talking about this a long while ago and I promised I'd share here. Well, stuff happens...and I didn't hold my end of the deal, so here are the pics that go with this conversion. Sorry for the delay John. I'll get the dashboard soon as well - promise :) BTW, I tried to use the but it didn't work - am I doing something wrong? |

I mounted my Tach-Adapt module on the rear wall of the glove box, to retain easy access to it.Has your Classic Industries Tach and the Tach-Adapt module remained stable over time? So far mine is fine. But I have very limited use. Also what ignition are you running? I have a MSD box. And I believe that I am using the exact same electronic dash gauge voltage regulator, I also installed a volt gauge in place of the OE amp gauge. |

John, I have only put 1,500 miles since installing, but (so far) it operates flawlessly; and as far as I can tell, the tach is on the mark (as tested with a 70's MAC RPM tool). I run a standard (upgraded from points) electronic ignition with a Pertronix coil, nothing complicated. I'll eventually do some sort of HEI and think everything will work just fine. Thanks again for motivating me to post pictures, I added some other small project posts yesterday and will work on the write-up for how I refinished my instrument panel over the weekend. Stay tuned! Hope all is well, be safe, -Chris |

Years ago, I seem to start a lot of conversations that way, I wrote a letter to Chrysler asking about a 66 Formula S Tachometer and converting it to a slant six. I got a nice reply stating that they did not have such a product. I ran across it the other day. |
