ok, im really stumped now. i adjusted the valves (they were WAY out and i havent done it since the purchase in june) and went to the track. the car went slower. it was a little humid out so i exected it to maybe match its best low 19 times from before. but it went back to mid 19s were it was before i did any real work on it. what do you think is up with this? i adjusted them to .008/.020 like doc said. man, i have to say its nice not to here all that clattering like before though.

Don't want to go against Doug, but try setting the intakes at .010" and see what happens. Could be that you don't need the intakes that tight.

Try some looser settings and see if the engine likes it.
Bottomline is that you can "play" with the lash adjustment to find the best performance, with your engine, tighter may not be "better" but you need to see if looser really helps.

On the other hand, there could be something else which slowed the car down.
