Hello all,

Been awhile since last post. Hope y'all are well. Been wrenching on the 73 Scamp. Installed Aussiespeed intake & headers. A Holley 390 4bb carb, 'mini' starter and associated cables. Oh and mounted a water plenum under the manifold. Plumed it in sequence with the heater core. Had the exhaust done last year, 2 1/4" thru a MF then 2" chrome turn-down. Y piped the headers to tie it all up, sounds proper.

I've had two cases of vapor lock. One about three years ago when I first bought the car. Had the 1bb Holley everything stock. Traced it to vacuum lines cracked/clogged. Second time, after mods, was recently. Took a long cruise, shut the car off, about 30 mins later bam. No fuel to carb. Disconnected fuel pump supply line and heard a slight sucking noise releasing the pressure. Reconnected the line, couple of cranks and back in business. Vapor Lock(?) In doing the carb swap we disconnected two of the three ports on the charcoal canister. The 'Purge' and 'Carb Bowl' ports. Capped them off.

After the first VL episode I did the 'over the valve cover' fuel line mod, Thx Dan. Now having read the importance of the charcoal canister, again Dan, I'm going to reconnect the open ports. I see how to get the purge port functioning. Parts on order for that.

I also want to install a three port vapor fuel filter. Plum the small filter port to the open 'carb bowl' port on the charcoal canister. Ports are different sizes but an easy fix. QUESTION, would this cause a problem in the fuel filter when the purge valve does it's thing?
Any advice/guidance/ridicule with this is appreciated.

I'd be tempted to drop the fuel tank, clean out the crud and mud at the bottom of it, and install a new pickup pipe strainer "sock" (GM part № 5651 705). Reinstall the sender with a new gasket (Chrysler part № 6031 475).
That 1/4" vapour fitting on the fuel filter wants a line running back to the tank. You've already got a hardline running from the tank vent forward to the canister, so tee into that line some distance aft of the canister.

Agreed Dan, time to drop the tank. Been putting it off but that sucking sound portends a change in fortune. The tank vent hard line has a very small opening/orifice. I put a length of hose on it and blew into it. Air was making it thru but very slowly. So is it clogged too or restricted as engineered? Could this be partial cause of the problem? Since local car shows have been canceled might as well drop it this weekend.
