Recently I bought a rebuild kit from Summit for my 1961 Dodge with a slant 6 and push button 904.
Kit number was PAKT12700 and advertised at Summit to fit models 60 to 78.
I was starting my rebuild yesterday and found out that at least the front clutch piston lip seals are wrong in this.
Did some googling and found out that the kit is actually for 72 and up models.

Is there more differences with the transmissions than these lip seals?

Yes, there are other part differences. Bet it doesn't have the correct filter, rear seal, park pawl housing gasket, cable "O" rings, etc. Get the correct kit.

Filter will fit, but requires later style oil pan. I'm using RE42 deep pan from Jeep so I do need a filter extension adapter.
61 Transmission does not have park at all.
But yes, maybe it's easier to get another kit rather than hunt down the missing seals.

The '60-'65 transmission requires a filter with two holes, not just one like the '66-up filter. See here.

No, you don't.

Yes. Also, Summit is really not a reliable place to get suitable parts for a car like yours (as you found out). Get with Pat Blais.

Thanks Dan!
Now that you mentioned it, I remember putting the Dacron filter to my tranny couple years back. I read your post about the swap back then and used the correct double pump filter.
Now that I'm going to put the 2" deep Jeep pan in it, wouldn't it be better to use extension on the filter to get it close to the pan bottom?
Actually, I don't even know if there is such an extension available for dual pump tranny :?

And yes, it was a russian roulette to buy the kit from Summit :D

But I ordered just the seal kit today from a local tranny shop and going to use the Alto steels and frictions from the "wrong" kit.

EDIT: And no, I do not need the extension if I remember to keep enough fluid in it

If you're using a deep pan, you can also get a 2-hole filter extension from Pat Blais. At least he's where I got mine in 2015 or so (when the deep pan kit I bought on Summit came with a 1-hole extension).

Sorry, I haven't been on the forum as often lately and just saw your question. Pat still has an eBay shop. Says it's temporarily closed for re-stocking as of March 2020, but you can still send him a message.
