Three point seat belts

Post subject:  Three point seat belts
I noticed a 76 Dart in the jy. It had a chewed up three point seat belt set-up. If I were to grab the complete seat belt assembly and the rear quarter panels could this be a easy swap to a three point seat belt set-up?

I think you can. When you say quarter panels, do you mean the interior trim panels? I wouldn't mind getting shoulder belts all around in the '70, though I'm not sure if you can use front shoulder belts with a bench seat (which this has, which I detest).

Adapting mounting points would be my concern. What kind system are they using in that 67? This is a good find regardless and i'll drive over and give you a hand with the install, anything can be done if so inclined... Dave 8) ) BTW Joppa don't see why one could not do a 3 point install on a bench-Just make sure the receiver side is long enough to fit through the seat-did this on my 66 split bench equipped Dart using some unknown truck belts. Saved my wife's life when she was hit head on..

Post subject:  3 point systems available since 1968...
My mom's '68 Valiant had the 'shoulder belts' (the ones that were another 'seat belt' that attached to the lap belt). This type of system went all the way through about 1973 on C-bodies, and I'm not exactly sure if 1973 was the year for the 3 point shoulder uni-belt seen in a-bodies.

If the car has the optional shoulder belt, it might be a bolt in proposition. I have a '74 and a '76 (and some '75 belts out of a 4 door). The 1975-1976 A-body belts are nice, they have a fat tongue, a good latch and a nice wide notch in the tongue for positive latching. The ones in my '74 are easy to pull apart (just waiting to eat steering wheel during a hea-on collision).
In the late model cars the bench set had 'holes sewn into the vinyl for the female receivers to be inserted, this may present a problem on earlier cars, since many of those use a full nylon belt bolted to the floor, without the plastic reinforcement.

Hello, I have a '75 4-door Dart with the 3-point belts and bench seat. Concidentally, I just finished pulling out the seat today so the information is still fresh in my mind. The bottom piece of the bench seat has two large openings which the female portions of the seat belt go through. You may or may not be able to use the new belts with your old seat; I'm not sure if those holes are absolutely necessary for clearance. In the worst case, you might be able to use your old female belts with the new male belt to avoid this problem.
