Well guys it's been a while since ive been on or messed with dads cuda, I give up trying to find a float for that holler 1920, cant find the one we need  . Does anybody have a float or a NOS carb for sale? Heck the manifold has that wierd hole in it that can cause a vaccum leak I hear. Thanks . And can any carter bbs 1bbl hook up to it? Thanks

Help others to help you; when you ask a question like this, always include the year, model, engine, transmission, and other details that even potentially could matter (does the car have A/C, is it a California-emissions car, etc). Because you did not, I'm guessing/assuming that you need a good carb for a 1968 Barracuda with a 225. If that's anywhere close to true, then cut this guy's price in half and make an offer; he's had that carb up for a very long time. It'll bolt right in place of a Holley 1920, only the fuel inlet is on the front instead of on the side—good excuse to do the Fuel line mod. . Sorry dan  , forgot about the other specs too, it has a A904 auto transmission, originally didnt have ac but the original owner (I guess in the early 70s) had the aftermarket under dash ac installed in it. I highly doubt it's a California emissions car, so any carter 1bbl bbs will bolt in place with no issues at all? And theres a hole on the intake it's like stray hole, some of them have it I heard. So what type of carb do you have? Mike

Ain't no stray hole, that. It's for the PCV port on most carbs through '69, then for the thermostatic air cleaner port on '70 up carbs when the PCV port was moved over to the other side of the carb. Only time this hole can cause a vacuum leak is in the very unusual case of trying to put a 1960 carburetor on a '61-up intake with that hole. Any BBS will bolt to your intake manifold, but not all BBSs will have choke and throttle hookups readily compatible with your car. Another really good (well-engineered, well-made) carb that would bolt right on—fuel inlet and all—is the 1963-only Bendix Stromberg Model W, such as this, this, this, this, this, this, this, or this. Carb kits are not as easy to find for it, but can still be bought from www.thecarburetorshop.com (their kit № 233), and they go by on eBay from time to time such as this. Hey thanks dan, so a Stromberg has the whole package? So it fits on the intake(check) and the throttle and choke linkages dont have to be changed or modified? If so I'm gonna get one off of the computer when I get off work tonight. But thanks for the help and information, Mike

I'm just worried about the plastic float the stromberg uses. Are the floats easy to find? And do you have to change them everytime you rebuild the carb? |

Don't know where to buy one (if anywhere, it'd come from TheCarburetorShop as previously linked) but never needed one because I've never had one of those floats fail. I don't know what they're made of, but it's not the porous foam the Holley floats are made of. Yes, this carb will hook right up—choke, throttle, air cleaner, distributor hose, PCV hose (the PCV port is on the right/inboard/passenger side instead of the left/outboard/driver side, so you'd want a shorter PCV hose). Fuel inlet located same as Holley 1920. |

Well, got off work and ordered me a stromberg model W, found one that's NIB rebuild from maybe the 60s or so, has the original box it came in, hopefully it works, but I have hope in it though. Thanks for the help Dan, will update the results on the slant 6 on what happens. Mike |

When you get the carb, spend a bit of time getting it ready. Lift up the external bowl vent valve "hat" and shoot some light oil in to wet the accelerator pump plunger. Unbend a paper clip and use the end to push the inlet needle off its seat; they tend to stick to the seat once they've been sitting on it for a few decades. If you need the adjustment info for this carb, you can find it in the '63 FSM—someone would probably be happy to scan it for you. I would, but I don't have that book. |

Thanks for the prep tips dan, and I've read some more posts about this carb that they were only on b and c body cars, and they were only on slant 6s with auto transmissions, so I know itll work for dead sure, I'm a little nervous about it not working, but I know itll work(I have a feeling). And another question I have is a barracuda a a body? Thanks for helping . Mike |

Barracuda = A-body. They were only on B- and C-bodies because in '63 the A-bodies used a different type of throttle linkage that wouldn't've been compatible. Starting in '67 the A-bodies started using the B/C-body type throttle linkage (actually the factory-air A-bodies started using the B/C-body type linkage in '65) so you're all set. |

Oh sweet man, dang you know your stuff dan, I really appreciate the help you did for dad me and his Barracuda, it's been in my grandmothers garage for about 30 years. I really appreciate the help and knowledge you've educated me with. But next major thing we got to worry about is that it has a overheating issue he said. Mike |

Sorry for pestering you so much dan, but another question crossed my mind I forgot to ask, would the air cleaner adapter piece on top of my old Holley 1920 work on top of the Stromberg carburetor I'm getting? Where the dog dish cleaner can sit on top of it? Thanks Mike |

"Dog dish air cleaner" doesn't pull up any images in my mind. "Air cleaner adapter" I assume you mean the 2-legged bail that snaps into the two ears on the carburetor to provide your air cleaner mounting stud? If so, yes, it'll go right onto the Stromberg carb. |
