I'm replacing the pickup coil in my distributor. 1967 Barracuda with Mopar electronic ignition that's been working well for 10 years, but now won't start. When I separated the pickup plate from the vacuum advance plate by removing the 3-legged spring, a flat bent leaf-spring looking item dropped out from between the 2 plates, rectangular, about 3/16" by 7/8". Is this normally found in this location? I don't see it in any distributor assembly diagrams. |

That's a terrific article, very detailed. Thanks, DI. As I suspected, I don't see a flimsy leaf spring anywhere. I'm going to put it with the other assorted unnecessary parts to save forever. |

Now that I know that metal bit shouldn't be there, it seems likely that it's a piece of a feeler gauge. I checked it with a caliper and it's 0.010". Strange. The section of the article having to do with replacing the plastic drive gear was very helpful. I had to drill new holes for the roll pin. |
