Hello, I am about to install a new clutch cover to my flywheel and during my prior question it was brought to my attention that I might need lock washers. My current bolts I purchased from Brewer and are curiosly shaped. They are hex shaped on top, then there is a rounded area underneath the hex part, before it drops in width to the threaded 5/16 area. Do I need lock washers and if so do I need to get special ones or can I pick up some from the hardware store? Sorry no picture, it's a 20 minute process to get out the computer, transfer the files, shrink them, then upload them. Paul |

Just my opinion here - Lockwashers are so 'last century'. I like flange head bolts with threadlocker much better. If I can't get good flange head bolts then a standard bolt and tight fitting (SAE) flat washer plus thread locker is my second choice. I can't remember that last time I used lockwashers on anything. I'm sure my opinion is colored by 30 years of working on mostly Japanese motorcycles and cars where running into an original lockwasher is pretty unusual. |
