Post subject:  How tall is the A904 upgrade pan?
How tall is the stock A500 pan (52118779AD) that was recommended in the "Pre-'64 auto trans filter retrofit" post?
It looks like it's about 5 inches taller/deeper than the stock 63 pan.

Er…no, it's perhaps 0.75" deeper, maybe 1" deeper.

Even the most skookum Race pans are only about 3" deep.

There's no way it would be 5" deep.

Maybe the picture was skewed taller on you phone or browser somehow?

Oh. OK.
It looks deeper on my computer.
Had my hopes set on a 1964 stock pan, but it arrived damaged from ebay today. Crumpled paper turns out wasn't the best padding material.

My recent experience with 904 pans....

1) A stock pan is fine
2) A stock A500 pan ('deep') is also fine if you must have more capacity
3) The fabricated aluminum Moroso pan is expensive but worth it
4) All the rest are junk

Any steel aftermarket pan (especially chrome) is gonna be lower quality than stock and more likely to leak

All of the cast aluminum pans are overly 'brittle' and most of all, heavy as an anvil.

Bummer. I can get the Dorman 265-839 2 weeks sooner and it has a drain plug.
And I was supposed to move the car this weekend.

You can buy it and inspect it....a lot of the aftermarket (Chinese) pans have the strengthening dimples removed from the pan rail or there are fewer of them. But if you need one 'now' it's better than nothing.
