Howdy, Next week I'm going to (In Oz slang) "have a fang at" what I suspect's a B&T joint vibration in El Toad. In my attempts to find reference materials beyond the factory manual I noticed plenty of parts available for the larger cars of the period. Is the /6 version the same size/part no's as those, or is it different to the point that they won't help me? Think I'll also post this up in the Social area. |

Not worth paying the money and doing the digging to try to find repair parts for the B&T front U-joint. Much better to do like this. |

I have one of those flanged spicer slip joints shafts from denny's driveshaft in the 64 dart that I bought. Ran it @ 80 on the highway with 3.23's. ... no vibes from it. Good stuff and bolts right to your ball and trunion flange on the back of the trans. Greg |

Actually, I have three slip joint gearboxes, and a Spicer & slip joint driveshaft, waiting on the shelf for an eventual complete conversion (Yes, I plan to have the car for rather a while). However, I also have another B&T gearbox (and another B&T driveshaft) as well, and as I'm quite a cheap SOB I'd like to get my mileage out of the two early boxes first. Then, there's also the pleasure of actually fixing a problem rather than simply throwing newer parts at it, pretty much what I enjoy about this hobby. Just rebuilt a vac brake booster for my '93 D250 rather than convert to an aftermarket hydro booster. So, are the two components different enough to preclude using their respective parts together? |

You've missed the point. The linked article is a show-and-tell of how to upgrade away from the B&T front U-joint while keeping the B&T transmission.Quote: Then, there's also the pleasure of actually fixing a problem rather than simply throwing newer parts at it
If your definition of "fixing a problem" is narrow enough to require that only original-type parts be used…okeh, then! Spend more money and more effort to wind up with a result that will require more maintenance than if you spend less money and less effort. It's your car and your choice. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Howdy, Dan. Hope you had a Happy Canada Day. No sweat, under stood the point. Prefer/intend to learn what I can about the B&T in the process of repairing one, if I can. I enjoy the learning aspect of my hobbies. Will move on to full Spicer & slip joint set up if I fail, as I have the parts. Consensus appears to be that they're two different sizes. So, in lieu of hard info I'll go forward with a repair attempt with parts on hand. Wish me luck? |

I spent it very grateful to be a Canadian in Canada, thanks!Quote: Consensus appears to be that they're two different sizes. So, in lieu of hard info
Here y'go. Part numbers Q-102 and Q-112, listed as '60-'62 Valiant/Lancer, are applicable to A-bodies through '65 (vendor cattledog stops at '62). If you need a new housing, expect to pay big bucks.

And separate numbers for the larger cars, as suspected. Excellent, Sir, Thank You once again. I've even learned enough to snag the site link for future use. Who says an old dog can't (slowly) learn (semi) new tricks? Hell, my wife even finally browbeat me into a pocket phone a couple months ago. |

If you need any core driveshafts, I have several of them, maybe even one in the right length (need a measurement). Lou |

Thank You, Gentlemen, I'm good on parts, and Dan's link verified the answer to my question. So, now "fully armed" , I'll blithely dive into the exercise. |
