Greetings from Texas y’all! I’ve been creeping on here for years, thought it was time to jump in on the action.. Great site! Ok folks, 74 factory air duster, and like many others, I purchased the after market AC kit, and I’m at the point here, where the bracket kit is a complete joke! Ive read some of the older posts about this topic and I’m looking for advice or good photos how y’all made this kit work! Or is it just time to start looking for the late 70’s brackets? Any and all ideas would be great! Thanks and have a wonderful productive independence weekend! Thanks. |

I don't know that I'd say "many" others do this. Was there something the matter with the original parts?Quote: the bracket kit is a complete joke!
Yup. Always has been. It is not well designed or engineered.

No, nothing wrong with oem system, other then it doesn’t work.. I’m sure it could with the hose upgrades and the condenser upgrade and some basic love to the system. I just thought, hey try a new kit and it would be easy! I was wrong. Just want AC system working as it should, I’ve had the windows tinted 15% so I’m ready for cold air in the Texas heat! However these bracket kits are a joke imo, and for the money spent, this should be a plug and play. |

My advice is to rebuild the original AC system using modern improved components like a new condenser and hoses and update to the new refrigerant. The Four Seasons compressors sold by Rockauto are already updated to work with R134A, including coming pre-loaded with three ounces of PAG oil. You can get most compnents new from Rockauto, except for the hoses. A local AC shop or hydraulic hose shop should be able to fabricate you new hoses that are compatible with R134A. Replace all the seals, replace the hoses and compressor and condenser, and you should be able to get the old system working fine. I would return the kit you bought. |

Those aftermarket compressor mount kits, were a poor design, back in the 1960's, and they still are. You would think that after 50 years of making them wrong, they could fix it. |

I agree, or at least use the late 70’s design and go by that. I was just wanting to see how other folks might have used them and made it work. However at this point might as well make the original system work! |

Does anyone have experience using the reman compressors from 4season’s ? The RV-2? I’m always afraid to use “reman” stuff these days. |

Since you have to get new hoses fabircated anyway, I recommend finding a slant six powered that had AC and was built using the more modern Sanden compressor design. Anything from the 80s (including trucks and vans) will have the Sanden compressor and necessary brackets. Just be sure to grab the hoses and especially the fittings when you get the compressor and brackets. Late 70s passenger cars should have the Sanden compressor, too. It is the round silver compressor. Once you have the brackets you cna order a new or remanufactured Sanden compressor ready to go with R134A. I am in the middle of repairing the AC system on my 90 Ramcharger and updating it to R134A. I got a new Four Seasons Sanden-style compressor from Rockauto. I charged the system for the first time last night and the new compressor is quiet and works fine. I am cautiously optimistic that it will last and work well. |

I would build a bracket so it would fit the new style compressor. But here is a slant six bracket for the new style. https://www.bouchillonperformance.com/inc/sdetail/6474 |

That was a nice bracket that Charlie was selling. I should have grabbed one while they were available. I have read people on other forums say they ahve been ableto adapt the later brackets for the smog pump to mount a Sander style compressor. You would probably need to still fabricate some of the bracketry, but it would give you a solid base to start from. |

I have a motor out in the shed with the smog pump and brackets. I was thinking the same, I'll have to investigate further... |

I live on the edge of the Hill Country in Bulverde. Vintage Air is located near here in the Garden Ridge area. I asked them about slant six A/C and was told that most use the OEM bracket and compressor. |

Oh very nice, I’m in canyon lake! Yeah going to return the bracket assembly. However, I do have the RV2 complete kit I’d be willing to let go cheap, if anyone is interested. Let me know thanks. |
