Post subject:  Identifying distributor for HEI conversion

So I have a distributor I would like to use for a HEI conversion. This is a distributor from some other points conversion that was installed in my car when I bought it some 20 years ago. The ignition module failed pretty soon after I started to drive the car and a points system was installed. Back then I was supposed to try to repair the module but I misplaced it and never found it again.

I don't remember what brand it is other than the module was named New World Electronics or something like that and probably was at that point 20 some years old.

Now I wonder if anyone can recognize the distributor and if it can be used for an HEI conversion. What I understand there is only 2 wires coming out from the Chrysler distributor but this one has a total of 4, 2 of them go to the same pin. Any advice on this, pictures of the distributor can be found in the link.

That is a points distributor which, as you say, has had some aftermarket electronic conversion put in it. It is not suitable for an HEI project; for that you need a Chrysler electronic distributor as described in the HEI upgrade article.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

That looks like the old XR700 ignition system variously owned and marketed by Allison/Crane/Comp and now FAST. It was/is a decent system, but it's easier to own and service an original Chrysler distributor paired with a GM HEI module and coil.
