NOS = New Old Stock These are parts made some time ago, but never used. The 1973 distributor has an advance curve for the emissions systems and requirements of the day. You can ask for one, but you may not get the right part and there are better choices. The 1978 distributor as used on the 2 bbl Super Six is better, but again, you probably won't get what you ask for unless you can find the right part number NOS. |

Thanks everyone, I did read the hei swap info and in the process of buying the parts. The plan is to get a module and a 1978 super 6 distributor , I have a blaster 2 coil laying around somewhere I think I can use. If anyone has any links to the right distributor it would be much appreciated, I see rebuilt cardone ones for a 78 slant 6 but who knows what kind of advance is in it. As far a module I guess a regular stock one is fine although I like the idea of a rev limiter one . |

No, really read the article. It includes a link to Old Car Parts Northwest where you can buy a new Chrysler distributor instead of "remanufactured" garbage. It doesn't matter what year, model, or carburetor you specify when shopping for "remanufactured" junk, you'll get the same distributor with random curves. |

What Dan is getting at is that companies that "remanufacture" distributors either (a) spray paint them and put them in a box marked "remanufactured" or (b) strip the disributors into component parts, throw all like parts into big bins, clean the parts, then reassemble the distributors by ust grabbing parts out of the bins without any concern for the original application or calibration of the distributor. Since the same distributor body was used in almost two decades of slant six production in applications ranging from stationary power generators to forklifts to boats to passenger cars to airport tugs to trucks etc.... there is no guarantee that the remanufactured distributor you get will be calibrated for the application you ordered, or calibrated for any specific application at all. You are much better off buying a New Old Stock distributor from a vendor like Old Car Parts Northwest than rolling the dice on a cheap remanufactured distributor. |
